Seed detectives

This week our focus is based around the Dr Seuss book "The Lorax". It has been a great opportunity to teacher children how to compare and contrast (see what things have in common and are different) using a Venn diagram. Children have enjoyed these discussions and shown that they able to effectively use a Venn diagram to organise their thinking.
Today we were seed detectives. There was no clear outcome for this activity, children were equipped with magnifying glasses and allowed to explore the 9 different types of seeds located in the classroom.
Children picked their own groups (a mixture of room 9 and 10 children) and moved through the classes observing the seeds. The children engaged in on task talk while looking at the seeds and came up with many new questions about seeds and how things grow.
